Casentino is the area of Tuscany that surrounds the upper course of the Arno River from its source to the city of Arezzo. Casentino is a land of castles, parish churches, convents, monasteries, medieval villages and fortified retreats. It is rightfully considered to be one of the most beautiful valleys of Tuscany, and it was here that San Francisco establishedthed of Assisi, the Franciscan order and St. Romuald built his hermitages. Therefore, the Casentino is often referred to as "the valley of the soul."

The Casentino lies on both sides of the river Arno, with a height of between 30 and 60 km. The largest cities are located along the course of the Arno, the most important Poppi and Poppi. In the shadow of the "Oil Sasso" Monte della Verna can be found the city of Chiusi, a settlement that was developed mostly in the 19th century as a welcoming place for pilgrims on their way to the shrine.

If the road has steep hunger, no need to worry. Casentino is also famous for some of the tastiest food specialties that has ever been outside the Tuscany. A pork sausage called Sanbudello 'and the local ham (prosciutto) are very popular among residents and tourists. Other products premises not to be missed include the cheese "Abbuciato 'along with chestnuts, mushrooms and red potatoes Cetica grown with traditional methods and those used in the preparation of "Tortelli.
